How Do I Tell if I have a Direct 9 Graphics Device With WDDM 1.0 or Hi

Recommended Posts

Re: "The driver version you're using (8.15.10.2622) is a WDDM driver."

That was a helpful answer for that specific person.

But the original question was "How Do I Tell if I have a Directx 9 Graphics Device With WDDM 1.0 or Higher Driver?" Now that Windows 8 states that users must have that configuration, there will be thousands of people asking the same thing. So it would be much more helpful to answer the original question, that is: where do we find this information? Then all of us can figure it our for ourselves. Thank-you for your help.

Run DxDiag (WinXP: Click Start button, Run, type in DxDiag and press enter. Win7: Type DxDiag in the start menu's search box the select DxDiag)

After the DxDiag opens up select the Display tab then check the Driver Model.

As with the post above yours, what do you see when you run DXDIAG for the "Driver Model", is it WDDM 1.0 or 1.1? If not you're screwed...

giovanni64,

The easiest thing for you might be to download and run the Windows 8.1 Upgrade Assistant. That should tell you everything you need to know. However, that tool won't run on XP or Vista. If you currently have XP of Vists, you will need to run Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant. Microsoft says that if you are OK to upgrade to Windows 8, then you should be fine for 8.1.

I just checked the compatibility center and the Leadtek WinFast Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 Ultra AGP 128MB Graphics Card is compatible with Windows 8.1. The Jaton version is not. I'm not a hardware guy so I don't know if there are other versions... these were the only two listed on the compatibility chart.

I do not see anything about WDDM and I don't know where to find such info.

I'm sorry I've googled around intensively and could not find a 100 pro information.

Running the Windows8-Upgrade Assistant, it says "This platform is not supported". However, I used the "Windows7 Upgrade Advisor" and this looks better and tells me that I'm able to install windows 7.

Installing windows 8 should be possible too because it's based on windows 7, or not?

I don't think so. The requirements for windows 7 are different than windows 8 as can be seen by the different results you found when running the upgrade assistant.

Open dxdiag from the Run box, click the "display" tab and have a look...
