Intel on Monday said that it was building a hardware security layer in its next-generation Core chips to prevent streaming movies from being copied.

The chip feature, called Insider, includes an end-to-end protection layer and management feature to unlock high-definition movies from online streaming services, said Karen Regis, consumer Consumer Client Marketing Manager at Intel.

Insider is a part of Intel's enhanced graphics offerings in its next-generation Core processors, which will be officially released on Jan. 5, ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

intel must wanna lose two maybe three customers :geezer:

They plodded down this road before only to be met by much resistance.

Now the "chips" (pun intended) are all likely to fall into place. ;)

Who better to buy up and promote millions of DRM processors then the kings of DRM themselves. The funniest part is Microsoft will come up with a marketing scheme to actually make DRM sound like a good thing :rofl3: And the people who bought all those other DRM ridden systems will swallow it hook line and sinker.

Reports indicate that Microsoft is prepared to show off a connected television solution of its own, and will demo a TV set top box this week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

According to research firm DisplaySearch, the market for connected televisions is expected to triple to more than 124 million units by 2014.

Microsoft's entrant into the space will be built on Windows Embedded, with a UI similar to its Media Center platform. The company's plans are nothing new -- the devices made an appearance when Microsoft announced its plans for embedded software last year, and during an Intel conference last September.

The fact that the devices appeared at the chipmaker's gathering may give a strong indication that the devices themselves may use Intel chips.
