Changed To .com And Now Have Problems

Recommended Posts

I am just in the process of uploading my website, which was a .co.uk domain, as a .com site. Same site with a different URL. The problem I have, is that when I attempt to replace the old links, prior to uploading, I find that the path begins with 'source' instead of http//www. etc. (source being the file folder). I have renamed the main folder containing all files. Do I need to do any more. Platform is Windows XP pro. FTP client is Filezilla. I am obviously doing something wrong. The index page, which is the one I am currently working on, is at www.artus-familyhistory.com

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

Why do you have a directory named "source" containing you files?

Move them out of that directory, place them where you want them, and then edit the files accordingly.

You also use another bad practice that should be avoided whenever possible, you have spaces in your .html file names. You should use - or _ instead of spaces.

An example, just one of several on your site, you have Fun day.html it should read Fun_day.html or Fun-day.html

Often times people will copy and paste links into forums or emails................and a space in the page name will most definitely break the link. Just like below

http://www.artus-fh.co.uk/source/Fun day.html
