Limewire

Recommended Posts

Trojans and viruses from kids illegally downloading everything and anything they can get, Like music and sometimes keygens.

Come to think of it....maybe I should support places like Limewire because that how I earn a living!

That isn't the software/application causing the problem. That has nothing to do with "Limewire".

That is an issue that always be around. Take away one form of sharing their junk and they will just move on to another one.

Remove that one and they will move on to the next, and the next...................

Don't blame the application, blame the idiots using computers.

It's the application that enables.

And yes, I agree that tomorrow it will be frostwire or bearshare. I personally do not see anything wrong with torrents or file sharing but it's the abuse that gives them such a bad rap, plus the fact that some sites knowingly allow illegal activity and the spread of malware. I have not yet seen a pc with a p2p application that does not also have a trojan associated with the application in some way. (and I've seen a lot of infected pc's!)

It's complete :filtered: that a program like Limewire can no longer be produced, simply because the actions of the end users (which, can not be controlled).

The Limewire servers do not contain anything that infringes a copyright and the owner of the company has never been proven to use the software to infringe copyrights either. There are many legitimate uses of Limewire and other sharing services. If it doesn't have a copyright, you can share it.

On another note, I still fail to see how you can copyright art and prohibit the sharing of it.

It's the "internet" and "computers" that enable these things to be done Joe.

Perhaps they should just ban all future sales of computers, and shut down the internet, because some people do bad things with them

I'm quite surprised that you did not recommend that users start using a *nix version to avoid all the trojans associated with limewire

Joe I rarely do that. In fact I almost never do.

You can read all the posts I have made about windows being insecure.......................and almost invariably you will see that I am not the one who brings up Linux.

Just like this thread Joe, I am not the one who brought up Linux :rofl3:

Funny how that works isn't it? ;)

The installation of the program is not at fault. It lies with the contributors who share their infected files.

The "we want it free" group gets what they ask for ... malware is always free.

All my software is free. ;)

I am a member of the "we want it free" group.

Everything I have is 100% legal.

Perhaps rephrasing that statement is in order Jacee

Really? A quick look at the HJT forum and virus forum shows many users who have PAID MONEY for rogue security software!

rouge security software?

Nope...infected music files are way more rampant on p2p

Joe, the "we want it for free" group doesn't use p2p methods to get everything it wants. Jacee said malware was always free, and I told her that she was wrong.

One day you will see the light, and release that free doesn't mean illegal, and that Limewire is free and clean software.

I can not control what you, your family, your friends, or your clients do, and frankly I don't care. The fact is, Limewire is legitimate software.

it's always been Bruces intent to twist things or take them out of context, by that I mean Jacee's comment, the intent of her post was ment for illegal use of p2p and I already stated that I don't think torrents or legal file sharing is wrong, I'm not against that at all. But there are too many kids that do illegal activity and the courts have already found limewire was aware of that

Joe, Bruce interpreted her comment from an open source perspective, and there are many people here that would agree with his view.

I just fail to see how you can support (or not be opposed to) file sharing, and then completely bash Limewire. You're just contradicting yourself. Also, it doesn't matter if people abused Limewire, what were they (Limewire) supposed to do?

The way I see it (from your assessment of Limewire), Microsoft should get sued because they know people misuse their software (Windows) to get illegal material on the internet, and they also crack the operating system and use it illegitimately.

Perhaps this will allow you to see that you cannot control the end user.

How am I twisting things?

Some people think or act as if applications like Limewire are the evil things.

People use computers to do this, the majority of them use windows to do this, many use ftp, webservers, ISP's hosting, email.......................hell people even transfer such files in their messenger clients.

So my question is, why just go after the Limewires when the root of the problem has nothing to do with the software being used.

Hell when I first started using computers malware was transfered via floppy disks, on software bought at computer shows.

People swapped music via cassette tapes, before that reel to reel.......................

But I guess I have to remeber and keep it in perspective because everyone knows that the Limewires are the bad here, it has nothing to do with anything else.

the folks at limewire know what their servers are being used for and they choose to turn a blind eye to the illegal activity, so they are getting what they deserve and are being shut down. I see no problem with that and I'm happier for it

Regardless of what limewire was or was not...it still does not change the fact that it was a major source of viruses and trojans. People can not handle p2p in a manner to make it available to the masses without abusing it

@ Adam22 .... you sound confused.

I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about...perhaps you are delirious from a long night of scrubbing Windows maybe?

I don't need or want any malware. You've never seen the idiots that buy the 30 dollar fake antivirus crap though?

actually...no.

most folks know that something isn't right, but I did know of one elderly man in his 70's that did buy the fake antispyware but his credit card denied the charges

Your confusing the fact the kids infect their pc by downloading trojans in the "free" music they are getting via the limewire servers.

That is a ploy to get the victim to pull out another card for the malware to steal.

Not just kids, I ask my customers if the knew that downloading copyrighted music was illegal and the tell me they paid for the Limewire program. :thud: I have to explain that they paid money to download (steal) infected music.:nono:

And now they are paying me  to fix the mess.
