Accessing more than 4GB of memory without hacks

Recommended Posts

I agree it is interesting. However if you read what the guy is saying then it really is true that you cannot use over 4Gb in 32bit because of possible driver issues and also because no one operation can go above the amount you would be limited to under 4gb per process so you would still need 64bit to handle more memory in a single process.

What that really translates to is that while it is possible to address over 4Gb in 32bit it is limited per process and could cause a driver issue. Also note that when enabling PAE you are warned of possible driver issues and this is exactly why.

So your limited in 32bit even though you can go around the limit because going around the limit has it's issues.

You are limited to 3 gigs because Microsoft wants it that way. No other reason then that.

All you need to do is fork over thousands of dollars for a Microsoft Server license, and low and behold your 32 bit system will support so much memory you will sit and wonder why you have been getting screwed for so long.

It is not a hardware limitation, it is not anything other but ummmm greed

There are many other operating systems, for instance the one I am typing this on, running 32 bit and all 4 gigs of memory are used. ;)
