Hey Bill.....be safe!

@ Andrew S.

I found the hardest thing to learn about driving was riding with my son while he was learning :fear:

I learned on a little Ford Escort manual stick shift when I was 15. The first time I backed up in it I gave it a little gas......let out slowly on the clutch......... made sure I was watching behind me........got confused because I was watching behind me.......hit the gas instead of the brake........and totally ran over a persimmon tree! My poor dad had to completely redo the crumpled up oil pan. The persimmon tree didn't come out of it very well either. :mrsgreen: I wouldn't drive for weeks after that. :h3lp:

Oh! Texas is a great place to learn to drive. You're doing just fine as long as you keep it between the fence posts.

My, oh my, how time passes.

My favorite Original Youngest Pitster is now a driver.

Congrats!

Be careful out there.

What's next?

I suppose you are going to want to vote in a couple of years!?

Bill, just remember to anticipate the worst on the road. Don't make assumptions of what granny or the yuppie chewing on his cell phone will do.

Just the other day, I was driving down the highway in the center lane during rush hour and a lady in front of me in her buick slams on her brakes for no apparent reason. I soon found out the reason, apparently a minivan on the right hand shoulder had their emergency lights. She got spooked. Real dumb, but you can't anticipate things.

Thankfully my car has anti-lock brakes because they sure kicked in. The guy behind me had to swerve to not rear end me. I passed her and it was an old lady who was leaning forward in her seat. It takes more distance to stop than you think.
