Recommended Posts

I'm currently running windows xp pro and my computer constantly freezes, get's pop up web sites and takes a long time to boot up. I ran norton virus scanner, disk defrager, internet eraser,ad-aware. Any idea's on how to check and see what's wrong with my computer? What programs do I need to just sart up xp? Maybe I have to many programs trying to start up atne time. My virus scanner says i have only a tracker program (low) which I fixed. Thanks in advance

Someone may help you more, all I see in the test is your HD is still 9% fragmented (defrag in Safe Mode & run antivirus while there as suggested) Does PC run better in SM?

HD only has 25% free space (I've seen the more full over 50% the slower XP can become)

You could try a online scanner http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Download & try SuperAntispyware free

Use CCleaner, also the Issues part (do the backup)

Post a HJT log in subforum HijackThis (for popups-maybe more)

I thought someone would have different suggestions. How is it going?

If all fails as it did on my mom's PC, think of removing Norton.

Her very slow PC ran as it should after removing Norton Suite.

Symantec has a Removal Tool you should use.

AVG & Avast have good free antivirus protection you should download first.

Kaspersky for a good paid AV
