question about power supply needed for the 9600 GT

Recommended Posts

Hi all, the 9600 GT is supposed to be out soon and apparently this is true...

NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT Video Card Features - Launch Close

ChileHardware published slides yesterday claiming the GeForce 9600 requires a 400W power supply that requires 26A on the 12V rail. Unlike previous mid-range GeForce cards, the D9M will require a 6-pin supplementary power connector, so get those power supplies upgraded if need be. The 9600 GT's core will be clocked at 650MHz and connect to memory over a 256-bit bus running at 900MHz, DailyTech notes. It's not yet known how many unified-shader Stream Processors the chip will contain. A single GeForce 9600 video card requires a 400W power supply with 26A on the +12V rail.

If it is true, will this power supply work with it?

thank you

The power supply recommendations are usually for worst case scenarios. I was running an X1900 on a cheap 400w power supply with no problems, even though they recommend at least a 450w PSU.

The one you listed will be more than enough. In fact, I am using a 520W power supply with a 2900Pro, which uses a lot more power than the 9600 will.

3870 hands down. Not only is it faster than the 9600GT, it uses slightly less power, and it can be paired up with a 3870X2 so you can run three cards in Crossfire.
