SMBIOS issue

Dell Dimension XPS 410 that should have 4 GB memory. PitStop reports 4.

 

I ran the Crucial memory analyzer which reported to 512 MB sticks and two 1 GB sticks. been trying to figure this out through Dell but no luck. :pullhair: Would appreciate any assistance.

I had the same problem a couple weeks ago. In my case, it turned out to be a flaw in 32 bit XP. It will never see 4 gigs of memory, and I had 4x 1 gb sticks of crucial that were only being reported as three gigs.

 

pitstop said I had 4, my eyeballs said I had four, but crucial software only counted three, and since it couldn't have three individual sticks, it split one to keep the ram slots properly filled. Somewhere on this site I found a link that explained the limitations of the operating system and the need for the PAE, Physical Address Extension that allowed XP to use all four gigs. Sorry, I can't give you any better directions.
