Driver problems with my Antec

Recommended Posts

Well let me tell you about my system briefly. I have an Antec running an AMD Athlon 64 processor. I have been having major problems with video and audio drivers (I think).

The problem with my video driver is it barely works. I cannot run any 3D graphics and anytime i scroll the screen shuffles slowly down in a choppy manor. It used to work fine then one day i think the computer crashed and it was fixed by some maybe less than credible repairmen, who most likely improperly installed the graphics card. I know my display driver is RAGE XL PCI. I tried to find a site to download and repair the driver, but that series doesnt seem to be around anymore. I really don't know. Does anyone know where I can either install the RAGE driver or find another driver to install?

My audio used to be fine. Then one day it just stopped working. And its not my speakers because when i try to play certain audio files i sometimes get an error message in spanish or something. I have absolutely no sound and my computer can't even pick up devices hooked up in the microphone input. I looked at my multimedia controller in the Belarc Advisor program, and it says none detected. How did this happen? What can I do?

Thanks in advance to anyone who helps.

Hello, I was just stopping by and noticed your trouble. It really sounds like you have some serious problems going on there. It would be very helpful if we could get a look at your system specs from your pit test if you can get through it. It really sounds like you have no graphics card driver installed. We'll get to the audio later.

Go to start/run and type dxdiag in the box and let us know what it says in the display tab. Somewhere else may know where to a safe place to get drivers for your card is.

Then at the home page here please run the full test and post back the results by copying and pasting the tech express link at the end of the test. Paste the link into your forum post.

On the display tab, there is nothing there for device. But on the driver side, it says:

Main Driver: vga.dll

Version: 5.01.2600.0000 (English)

Date: 8/4/2004 08:00:00

WHQL Logo'd: Yes

Mini VDD: vga.sys

VDD: n/a

DDI Version: unknown

And the audio tab is completely blank except for a note on the bottom; No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer.

I can understand a graphics card not working, because it stopped after being repaired in a shop. But the audio just randomly stopped working one day.

Oh and I couldn't get the PC Pit Stop tests to run. I disabled my pop up blocker and firewall and it still didnt work. I'll keep trying though and edit this post with the results if it works.

Sounds to me like you dont have Sound or Video drivers..

Heres a link to your motherboard here:

Abit KV-80

I see you have onboard sound so you can get the right drivers for everything on your motherboard here:

http://www2.abit.com.tw/page/en/download/d...PE=Socket%20754

You want to download the 'Realtek Audio Driver' for Win9x / Me / 2000 / XP / 2003 / 64bit

I also see you have a nVIDA GeForce 6600 which you can get the latest official drivers for here:

nVIDA GeForce 6 Series ForceWare Release 162

If those drivers dont work then it sounds like you have a more serious issue but I'm sure these will work :)

Good Luck :)

Also be a good idea to download and install the rest of the VIA drivers, and install all of them before installing the video drivers.

I downloaded the sound driver and unzipped the file, and I really have no idea what to do. I tried to run the setup.exe but it didnt work. What do I do with the files in the winzip?

EDIT: And now I just downloaded the NVIDIA installer and it said no drivers could be located that are compatible with my hardware and it exited.

For the video driver you need to install the motherboard drivers first, especially the AGP/GART driver; which in this case would be the VIA Chipset driver and is on the same page that MOFAUX linked to.

The same thing probably applies as far as getting the sound drivers to install, must install the motherboard drivers first.
