Test your internet speed

Recommended Posts

I need some advice here please..

I have a 10mbit connection from Shaw (ISP in canada). But here what I'm confused, I pay for a 10mbit connection, but recently I have noticed some too pretty high results (I did complain to the them few months back, when I was having poor download speeds more like 5000 kb/s instead of a more pleasing number like 8000 kb/s, never had problems with upload)..

This is from Calgary where I live

Now watch this, I use Seattle's server, and notice the huge change: Posted Image

And one from another city in canada, Vancouver: Posted Image

Now notice the difference in download speeds, personally I'd really not believe that calgary server, had weird numbers in the past from that server, never true.. Always slower..

But Vancouver and Seattle, there is a whooping 8000 kb/s speed difference, but the upload is consistent..

Also my bill from the provider still says I have the 10mbit connection, notice they also have a 25mbit connection too http://tinyurl.com/2wv4oa.

Is there any proper way of checking for better results (offcourse I wouldn't mind the free bandwidth :mrgreen: ).. Offcourse there is no way to find accurate, but close to would be nice... Any suggestions ?

Thanks :)

miggs,

PowerBoost™ is a great feature from Shaw that allows you a 5 to 20 second burst of downloading speed by temporarily increasing your available bandwidth. Now you can download music, pictures, videos and small software updates even faster with Shaw’s PowerBoost.

Which profile are you on? This one,

http://www.shaw.ca/en-ca/ProductsServices/Internet/Xtreme-I/

or this one,

http://www.shaw.ca/en-ca/ProductsServices/...net/High-Speed/

From you screen shots above (the one showing 8388/968) it looks like you are on the first one, which includes PowerBoost, and would also explain the really fast speeds.

On the first one, I thought PowerBoost is $2.95 extra charge...

edit: Never mind I noticed... :blushing:
