To continue with the car analogy,

 

if schools taught driving, they would teach precisely how to drive one brand of car and use the features of that car, precisely. EG: pull lever under left hand side of steering wheel forwards one notch to go into reverse. When the students leave, and drive a different car, they will not be able to make the transition to a lever on the right hand side of the steering wheel. In reality, generic instructions would have been better as it would allow the student to take a look at any car and fathom where the levers are.

 

The model lesson would be "In a car you apply the brakes with this pedal. A commonly used car is a Ford, the brakes are here at your feet. In some cars, like this Brand X, the brakes can be on the ceiling,"
