Building a New System!

Recommended Posts

Guest dwfinch

This all started with getting a bad FX57 from New Egg! I am now RMA'ing it!

I did this, and that, and then I thought for a while!

This is what I'm going with:

MB ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe NF4SLI 939

VGA ASUS 7950GX2 EN7950GX2/2PHT/1G

MEM- 1Gx2-MUSHKIN 184P D500 991493 R

CPU AMD-A64 FX-60 2.6G 939 2x1M

I guess I got carried away :rofl2: But I want a PC that will play any game, today, and tomorrow!

With my current set-up, when I play F.E.A.R. , I can only play it on Medium settings, and even then, it still stutters a little!

I think this new hardware should fix that!

What do you think? Any input?

you dont need an extreme conroe, the E600 would be better than the FX60 and still be cheaper

hell even the E6300 would kill a FX60 when OC'd :boxing:

Well, I got the FX series because it's supposed to be good at gaming!

Now, untill the Conroe series came out, The Opties, and the FX60's were great!

What makes em so bad now? Prices have dropped way down!

I have also read that the lower Conroe's do not beet the FX60

I paid 460.00 for this CPU, and back when I got my FX55, it was a lot more!

In my opinion, it's what works for you!!! I started with 5 different Intel CPU's, and always had problems! Who knows, maybe I was just that un-lucky? Or just plain stupid???

But then, my first switch was to the FX55, till I burned it out! But it was a great CPU, I then went to the A64 4000+, which was great! I then went to what I'm using now, A64 X2 4400+, which I like very much!

So, I guess I'm sticking with what works for me!

Oh ya, BTW Kenny, & Big, can bite me!

the FX60 is not a bad CPU at all i had one worked great basicly whats being said is the best bang for the Buck would be conroe and yes a E6600 would kill it in benches and smoother gaming but the FX60 isnt bad at all

but if building from scratch a E6600 would be the best route IMO and cheaper to allow for better add'l parts

The FX is good, but a E6600 will beat it stock and beats it in Oc'ing abilities for less money... but stick with what you want... it's your choice :)

The FX60 should last for a while.

Personally I saw a night and day difference between a opty 170 @ 2.78 and the E6600 @ stock... my 7950GX2 was bottlenecked by the opty 170

w0t :woot: my man reached here b4 me, no way.

Heya finchy, lone time no see man, how ya been.. Hey I'd agree with flew, the FX-60 is not a bad cpu, but if you do want today and tomorrow gaming, than yeah the Conroe is way to go.. (oh besides I didn't mean to hurt your feelings, when I slammed the FX-60 :blushing::P )..

Yup as kenny said, the E6300 would own the FX-60, but if you want a descent and very good one, go with the E6600 as flew mentioned, if its expensive 1 step down will still be good, E6400 is awesome.

So it goes this way:

Your setup: $1,326.96

Conroe Setup:

evga 680i SLI mobo: $249.99

Core 2 Duo E6600: $309.00

GeIL Ultra 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800: $229.99

Lastly you really don't need 7950GX2's in SLI, Quad SLI also requires alot of Power, you could get away with 2x7950GT KO: $529.95 (2X)

That adds upto $1,308.96, so you're saving little, but its still a mich better system than the FX-60.

Good luck though !! :):adios:

i agree with the conroe vs fx.

i saw a night and day difference between my opty 165 @ 2.6, against this conroe at 2.4 stock!

gamed much smoother right out of the box.

and if your an overclocker, the e6600 with good cooling can really turn up the heat (no pun intended) lol

ive got mine at 3.5ghz, but ive had to stop there due to temps.

im waiting to see more info on the latest vapo system from OCZ, cheap vapo thats near silent (Cryo-Z). doesnt cool as good, but does below 0°c and is plenty for me :D

sure beats 65°c at full lol

The FX60 is an awesome chip. The E6600 is a much better chip. Simple as that!

AMD did own for a while, but now it's Intel's turn for a while :P

Oh and a single 8800GTX is a better choice than SLI 7900's, it'll be faster in games.
