Which is newer, which reads faster, do you need to write two cds at once? do you even need two optical drives, you might find you can remove both and just use a dvd-rw drive.

Thanks for the replies. Bubba thats a thought because it is a DVD-RW drive I'm thinking of putting in,I assume a DVD-RW is the same as a DVD Burner.

The drive I'm thinking about fitting is a Sony AW-G170A Dual layer, any one know if these are good or not. Will this drive replace both my CD drives.

Thanks for reply.

So do I need a DVD drive as well,if so no problem,I guess your talking basic DVD drive here.

What I would like to be able to do is put some of my DVD movies onto DVD disc as backup as my son loans them to friends and they don't all come back. Do I just need a DVD Burner to do this or will I need a DVD combo drive as well.

Thanks all for replies. Yes the Sony is dual layer burner.

So I assume I don't need a DVD basic rom drive as well.

Sorry about these dumb questions but if you don't ask you don't learn.
