    hijacked

So I have been hijacked about 3 weeks ago through steam witch was used to take all of my inventory items after that I ran a scan with avg and it found a trojan and a worm I thought that ok thats done them but then I hear form a friend who got hijacked by the same person got re hijacked and said he did scanns with malwarebytes and all the usual anti-virus and malware stuff so I was scared luckily my acount is steam guarded until march the 6th I have downloaded loads of anti virus and malware software and the came up clean then i downloaded avast and it found a win32:malware-gen but that could have just been avast messing up. So then I downloaded kaspersky and it found and deleted a back door and a RAT when ever I restart windows it says in a window with netsupport a the top this file cannot be read (one of the files kaspersky deleted) please check it exists or is valid I look were it is stored and nothing is there what im asking is is my computer safe to re log into steam and email and all that stuff because formatting my hard drive is not an option for me and also if I may have help stopping that anoying pop up when ever I start windows about the start up file not being valid sorry I have not asked this question in the right place or haven't layed it out properly im very new in fact this is my first post here im pretty panicked and paranoid about what will happen
  3. My computer has been acting very slow lately, especially in opening the browser. Most of the time the icon spins for a long while before opening up the page, if it opens at all. Also, the computer is very sluggish in opening up new windows. For example, even opening the control panel can take a minute or so. I have run the following scans: AVG: no issues found PC Exterminator2: Did not find any medium or high threats Trend Micro HouseCall: found 1 threat and fixed it. Ad aware completed scan: found 7 threats and removed them. PCPitstop Overdrive: followed directions to fix. Wasn't completely successful. The link to my Overdrive results are here. Thank you in advance! My dds scan, attach files and HJT files are below. Alternatives to Windows Desktop Search

The built in Windows Search, formerly known as Windows Desktop Search (WDS), is a nice feature on Windows computers for easily locating files and folders that you may not know the exact location of. However the built in search can be slow and doesn't always find what you know is there. Third party Windows search tools offer more robust features, are faster, and some even have add-ons. Everything Search Engine Everything Search Engine FAQ Find and Run Robot (FARR) Homepage and features FARR Features You Should Know About FARR Add-ons Wise JetSearch Wise JetSearch Help Center DocFetcher searches inside your document files! Find yourself looking through tons of documents? Try DocFetcher, a search tool that only searches for documents and text inside of documents saving you time.DocFetcher Downloads (also a portable version) DocFetcher Homepage and usage Extra note: If you have forgotten the name of the file or folder you are looking for, using the above search tools, you can type in a partial search term and search. Doing so will still list all of the files and folders containing those letters or numbers.
  5. Many times a programs built in uninstaller will leave behind unwanted and unneeded files, folders and registry keys. Unlike softwares built in uninstallers third party uninstallers will also scan for leftovers and remove the stuff you do not need once a software program is removed. They can also help you remove programs that have become corrupted and the built in uninstaller will not run. Some advantages of third party uninstallers: Force uninstall corrupted software Safely clean leftover files and folders Safely clean leftover registry entries Find details about unknown software My personal preference has always been Revo Uninstaller Free but I have tried all of these and they work well. 6. In a situation that you tried to restore your system, but it won't launch System Restore (viruses can corrupt it) and tried booting in Safe mode to try System Restore, but still won't launch there is an easy solution, First create a system repair disc by selecting Start, type system restore disc and press Enter and follow the prompts. Only one CD-R will be needed and an optical drive is required. Then boot from the CD (press key when "press any key" shows up), then follow the prompts until you get "Choose a recovery tool" page, then select system restore. Thanks to Lincoln Spector, PCW

The 10 Commandments of Windows Security

With the introduction of Windows 7, many PC and notebook users may feel more secure than they did using older versions of the Microsoft operating system. Newer OSs have more security features, offer better out-of-the-box security settings and have closed many of the historical security holes. Windows 7, for example, has changed the default User Account Control level so that it's harder for rogue programs to run without first explicitly gaining the user's permission. http://www.pcworld.com/article/254369/10_commandments_of_windows_security.html Thanks to, PCW

    Windows XP Program Icons

Well, my computer suffered severe malware attacks before I received it. I actually received it for free for me to fix. After fixing it I decided to keep it for myself, it was perfectly fine. I also got Microsoft Office 2007 installed on it (legally of course with a CD-Key). No problems occurred whatsoever until one day when running Disk Cleanup a window appeared saying, "Files that are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability, Windows must restore the original versions of these files. ----Insert your Windows XP Professional CD-ROM now." [Options: Retry-More Information-Cancel]. I do not have a Windows XP CD-ROM because I fixed the computer manually, thus I cannot simply enter it and retry. So I am forced to Cancel and keep the unrecognized versions. This was the only thing that happened and no side effects were noticable so I left it. Another couple of months passed and I got the morbid blue shut-down screen.....3 times in 1 week. I am not smart enough to know what to do in that situation so I kept working as I needed to finish some work on the computer hoping to get back to it later. Then one day I realized that my Quick Launch Toolbar was not working (I would click the icons and nothing would happen). This was always my preferred method. So after that not working I double-clicked on my Fire Fox desktop Shortcut Icon. Nothing happened except the icon going semi-translucent. I found the only way to open programs was to right-click and click open (Not even clicking them from the start menu works). Please note that if I had a folder or PNG file on my desktop I could open it with ease, just not programs such as My Computer, Fire Fox, Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, Etc. Even programs that I downloaded separate from Windows programs. I did some quick Google searches and figured I had a problem with my registry. I don't have enough training to mess with any of that. So I downloaded CCleaner, ran it, cleaned everything, apparently fixed all registry problems, I downloaded an Anti-Virus program that said my computer was clean of any viruses and everything I knew to do. I even tried System Restore (Which I also had to Right-Click and open as well) but to no avail (It would run and say it was unsuccessful and that no changes were made). I tried a Clean Boot, I tried EVERYTHING I could find on Google...thus, links to other sites/forums will most likely not be very helpful. I need help. This isn't a SERIOUS problem....yet....but it is VERY ANNOYING. If anyone could shed light on this, please do. Here is my HiJackThis File.... Add new file extensions to Windows search

You already know that Windows can search the contents of your files, but it only searches certain types of files. If you have a proprietary application that creates files with an extension Windows doesn't recognize as being one of the types it normally searches, you can add the file type to the search function. Here's how: In the Start menu's Search box, type "Indexing Options" In the Indexing Options dialog box, click the Advanced button Click the File Types tab At the bottom of the windows, click the Add button to add a new extension to the list If there are file types listed that you don't want Windows to search, you can uncheck their boxes in the list. Copy path to a file

Do you get tired of clicking through a bunch of folders to get to files you want to upload to Facebook or a cloud storage service or some other location? Here's a way to save a lot of stress and strain on your mousing hand: copy the path and paste it in instead of browsing. Windows 7 makes that easy: In Windows Explorer, hold down the SHIFT key and right-click the file that you want to upload. This displays more choices than a simple shiftless right-click. Now select Copy as path. On the web page where you want to upload the file, press CTRL+V to paste it into the box and you're done. No need to browse through all those folders all over again. Type services.msc in Windows start menu search bar and hit enter to open Services. Navigate down to Print Spooler. Rt click on this services and ‘Stop’ this service. 2. Next navigate to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS folder and delete all the CONTENTS of this folder. Now rt click again on the Print Spooler service and restart it. 3. You can copy-paste this commands and save it as prnt_flusher.bat for example and use it everytime you have problems again. @echo off echo Stopping print spooler. echo. net stop spooler echo Erasing Temporary Junk Printer Documents echo. del /Q /F /S “%systemroot%\System32\Spool\Printers\*.* echo Starting print spooler. echo. net start spooler Original post thanks to, TWC site

  21. My computer can no longer detect and load into Windows Explorer my USB external hard drives (3 different manufacturers) when I insert the USB cables but can detect my USB flash drives (same manufacturer). These drives have lots of video footage and photographs I have shot. I use them all at this time of year each year and really need to be able to insert and remove them regularly over the next month. Really bad timing for this problem. The safely remove hardware icon appears on the taskbar but the drive does not appear in Windows Explorer. When I press the safely remove hardware button the safely remove hardware dialog box does not load (at one point it was loading but no drive was listed). Eventually the system freezes and programs (any running) stop responding. They drives are visible in Windows Explorer when loaded in safe mode. Does that mean the Windows filed running the USB ports are not corrupt? My antiviral software is up to date and says my system is clean and so does Microsoft System Sweeper. I did get a couple of trojans recently maybe names like ?Java/Agent DU and Java/Agent U... (letters were U or DU or DP I believe) System was cleaned and says it is clean today. Uninstalling all the USB stuff in device manager did not help. I cannot figure out if this is a Virus problem or Windows problem. The hard drives connect normally on my sister's computer so I do not think it is a hardware problem. Thank you for any help, Samantha
