  1. please help! I have a Lenovo ideacentre A-730 all in one desktop. powers on (hear fans - all that good stuff) but you cannot see anything on the screen except for a timer bottle - at times. The lights will light up on the buttons ( located on the screen - lower right corner). worked on night then wouldn't turn on the next day. Any suggestions? Thank you,
  2. Hello friends, I am having an issue and have tried a variety of fixes with no luck, so I am turning to the Internet. I have tried searching forums for resolutions to my issue, but found only solutions I have already tried or got "it just started working again". I have a beautiful rig I built myself. The desktop is my baby. I've had it for two years now and have yet to have an issue with it. On Wednesday I began to have connectivity issues late at night in the middle of a game with friends. The Internet dropped and would only return intermittently for several seconds before dropping again. I turned off the computer and called it a night, under the assumption the issue was with the router. It has acted this way before and last time it was an issue with a downed wire (though we have switched providers since then). Today I turned on my machine and it failed to connect to the Internet. Upon further exploration, I found that the computer was able to identify our home network, but when I attempted to connect it failed. The issue seems to be between the desktop and the router. All other devices in the household have access to the Internet, including two pc laptops, an Xbox one, and an iPod. Troubleshooting told me it was unable to identify the issue. I reset the router and the computer and tried again without success. I reset the connection without any luck. I turned off the firewall and tried to connect. I made a guest account on the desktop and tried to connect. I signed in to the router settings and checked there were no blocks on my machine (I would not put it past the other members of the household to put some sort of restrictions on my machine while fumbling around in the router settings). I pinged my machine with the router and got nothing back. When I viewed my hardware, the machine said it detected the wireless card and that it was working. The card has a reset button on the back I pressed. Connecting directly to the router via a cable is not an option, as the router and the desktop are on entirely different sides of the house. Signal strength has never been an issue despite this, and neither the router nor the desktop has been moved in the past week. The computer sees the connection and tells me a connection is available. When I try to connect to our network, it gives me an error. I have not made any changes what so ever to my system in the past week. I have not installed or uninstalled any software or hardware of changed any settings. I'm at my wit's end. I'm not entirely computer illiterate, so it is frustrating to hit such a wall. I just want to play games with my friend. Is it possible the wireless card simply failed? It still appears to be working blinking-light and connection-detection wise. Would you have any suggestions on what to try next? Thanks!
  3. The built in Windows Search, formerly known as Windows Desktop Search (WDS), is a nice feature on Windows computers for easily locating files and folders that you may not know the exact location of. However the built in search can be slow and doesn't always find what you know is there. Third party Windows search tools offer more robust features, are faster, and some even have add-ons. Everything Search Engine Everything Search Engine FAQ Find and Run Robot (FARR) Homepage and features FARR Features You Should Know About FARR Add-ons Wise JetSearch Wise JetSearch Help Center DocFetcher searches inside your document files! Find yourself looking through tons of documents? Try DocFetcher, a search tool that only searches for documents and text inside of documents saving you time.DocFetcher Downloads (also a portable version) DocFetcher Homepage and usage Extra note: If you have forgotten the name of the file or folder you are looking for, using the above search tools, you can type in a partial search term and search. Doing so will still list all of the files and folders containing those letters or numbers.
  4. Well, my computer suffered severe malware attacks before I received it. I actually received it for free for me to fix. After fixing it I decided to keep it for myself, it was perfectly fine. I also got Microsoft Office 2007 installed on it (legally of course with a CD-Key). No problems occurred whatsoever until one day when running Disk Cleanup a window appeared saying, "Files that are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability, Windows must restore the original versions of these files. ----Insert your Windows XP Professional CD-ROM now." [Options: Retry-More Information-Cancel]. I do not have a Windows XP CD-ROM because I fixed the computer manually, thus I cannot simply enter it and retry. So I am forced to Cancel and keep the unrecognized versions. This was the only thing that happened and no side effects were noticable so I left it. Another couple of months passed and I got the morbid blue shut-down screen.....3 times in 1 week. I am not smart enough to know what to do in that situation so I kept working as I needed to finish some work on the computer hoping to get back to it later. Then one day I realized that my Quick Launch Toolbar was not working (I would click the icons and nothing would happen). This was always my preferred method. So after that not working I double-clicked on my Fire Fox desktop Shortcut Icon. Nothing happened except the icon going semi-translucent. I found the only way to open programs was to right-click and click open (Not even clicking them from the start menu works). Please note that if I had a folder or PNG file on my desktop I could open it with ease, just not programs such as My Computer, Fire Fox, Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, Etc. Even programs that I downloaded separate from Windows programs. I did some quick Google searches and figured I had a problem with my registry. I don't have enough training to mess with any of that. So I downloaded CCleaner, ran it, cleaned everything, apparently fixed all registry problems, I downloaded an Anti-Virus program that said my computer was clean of any viruses and everything I knew to do. I even tried System Restore (Which I also had to Right-Click and open as well) but to no avail (It would run and say it was unsuccessful and that no changes were made). I tried a Clean Boot, I tried EVERYTHING I could find on Google...thus, links to other sites/forums will most likely not be very helpful. I need help. This isn't a SERIOUS problem....yet....but it is VERY ANNOYING. If anyone could shed light on this, please do. Here is my HiJackThis File.... 5. Here is how, Internet Explorer 10 in Windows 8, provides one web platform that supports two browsing experiences: the new Internet Explorer in the Windows Metro style UI experience that is optimized for touch devices, and the familiar browsing experience of Internet Explorer for the desktop. By default, in Windows 8, Internet Explorer 10 will open the version which matches your current environment. If you are on the Metro UI, it will open the Metro IE10. If you are working on your Windows 8 desktop, it will open the desktop version of IE10. It is the the Metro version of IE 10 that is the default browser on Windows 8. But if you want to change the default to IE10 desktop version, you can do it via Internet Options. Under the Programs tab > Opening Internet Explorer, from the drop down menu, select Always in Internet Explorer on Desktop. Click Apply/Ok. thanks to, http://forum.thewind...indows-8-a.html
