  1. It was bad!

Whoa! Hope you feel better soon c_b!!
  2. Replacing an HDD 3.5" USB 3.0 Enclosure

Maybe try Ultimate Boot CD? I've used it many times. It has so many useful utilities and runs from a Gentoo Linux with gparted already available to use.
  3. Laptop not powering on completely

Looking into it now. I do have a 4GB matched set of pc2-6400 I can put in. Should know what's going on soon. I see a few solid caps near the CPU. They look fine though. It does appear to be a slight gap with the heatsink and gpu, so that could be the problem I suppose. Might have to get a copper shin in there and some fresh thermal compound. And now it won't even attempt to power on. But all the LEDS come on and no beep codes or flashing led codes.
  4. A friend just gave me an HP Pavilion dv6700 with model number dv6915nr. The led for charging lights up. Pressing the power button gets it to turn on but only for a second. The fan spins up to full speed during this time. It then goes into a loop where it starts then shuts off every 5 seconds or so. It's got an AND Turion X2 64 CPU, 3 gigs of PC2-5300 and nvidia graphics. Not sure which gpu it is though. I tried reseating ram and testing with and without ram, hdd, battery. All tests yield the same result. Any idea what could be the issue?
  5. Needing a new rig

So quite a bit has happened in the past couple weeks. This has caused me to have to stop folding for a while. Firstly, my lappy has died and I can't find what the exact problem is. I just know it won't power on at all. Then I lost my job and g/f kicked me out. Went to stay with family for week and got offered a new (better paying) job!! Girlfriend even called and asked me to come home. Then an old friend just gave me 2 excellent condition HDMI monitors. So now I just need to put another rig together to get folding again. I may have to buy a few components at a time, and trying to get best bang for buck. Any recommendations on what to look into?
  6. Got a new phone

I searched touchwiz in play store and it's not installed. Guessing I have a different one. Apex and Nova also appear to not be installed either. So no clue what launcher it's using.
  7. Got a new phone

Thanks very much for the info!!
  8. Got a new phone

Looks like Android 5.1.1 and think I seen something about Lollipop. Can't find anything about Samsung Launcher. Guess I'll just have to deal with it for a while. This was the only phone I could afford at the time until I start new job. Current employer put everyone on lay off for 3 months and now everything is behind on payments. I also don't understand how the 4G LTE is slower and drops calls more than the old 3G I had before.
  9. My LG one was starting to take 8+ hours to charge and then die in about 30 minutes to an hour just in standby mode. Well, got a new Samsung Galaxy J1. It's got a quad core cpu and double the storage and RAM. It also gets an upgrade from 3G to 4G LTE service. Problem is, it seems to be slower than the last phone. Is it due to adverts on websites? I do have CCleaner app and keep it clean. Maybe I need to scan for any infections (malware, adware)? I do know all firmware and apps are up to date and current with Verizon. It is an Android but I'm not certain which version... possibly Marshmallow. Last phone was running Kitkat 4.4.2 I believe. Any recommendations?
  10. Happy Birthday JustinP526

Thanks so very much y'all, wish I could say it was good as I had hoped for.
  11. Making bootable USB

Maybe had something to do with my lappy. Think it just died as it just powered off and won't turn back on. Plugging in the power adapter causes it to trip and the LED goes off. Unplugging it makes the LED come back on. So guessing the mobo just fried. Have to open it up and see for sure.
  12. Making bootable USB

Trying everything and getting lots of errors in the output. No clue what I'm doing wrong, but guess it's not going to happen.
  13. Making bootable USB

Well I made sure the flash drive was empty and formatted and still get the same result. It says it can't write the file and to burn to a DVD. My optical drive (DVD-RW) is dead and won't read or write or anything. No clue what to do now.
  14. Making bootable USB

Think that's the one I was following, thanks though! Actually, might help if I format the flash drive first... wouldn't it?
  15. Making bootable USB

I'm trying to make a bootable USB of Windows 7 for a a reinstall on a friends machine. They don't have an optical drive. I'm using USB Key Writer in OpenSUSE 13.2 KDE 64 bit and it keeps telling me "can't write this file". The Windows 7 iso is a download from Microsoft so should be perfectly legal and legit. Friend has a legal Win7 product key for specified machine as well. The USB stick I'm trying to use is 8GB so should be sufficient. Am I doing something wrong?
