  1. Should have mentioned im using sp1. Not sure why my windows updater hasnt installed sp2. Im gonna try the sp2 symbols anyway since ive installed all the sp1 symbols and it still doesnt work.
  2. After running windows memory diagnostic again it found memory errors so im going to get my memory replaced and hope that fixes it. Before i do that ide like to get the windows debugger working which i havent been able to do. Im using vista 64 bit and a core 2 quad processor. Does anyone know which sysmbols i need to get this thing to work because ive tried downloading and installing a couple of symbols packages but i keep getting a wrong sysmbols message.
  3. Start>control panel>administrive tools>event viewer>system Click on type to arrange by type. Scroll to find the error messages. Once you find them see if you can find any that say under source "system error". If you find any double click on it. You should see something like "error code xxxxxxxxx" Post your error code here and someone will likely be able to tell you. Common codes are: error code 00000050 = Problem with RAM error code 0000008e = Problem with RAM error code 00000024 = Problem with RAM error code 000000c2 = Problem with RAM error code 000000ea = Possible graphics card error code 000000d1 = Possible graphics card error code 0000007F = Corrupt system file or very rarely a RAM problem. I copied all this from my computer manufacturers welcome booklet that ive been reading to try solve my own blue screens. Hope it helps. Other things ive tried are: memtest86,prime95,windows memory diagnotic. The test are pretty complicated but with some effort you can figure them out or ask for directions here.
  4. Nothing is overclocked I wasnt sure how to propery use event viewer so i didnt post the information here. Im sure ive wiped the information now anyway. I dont have a spare video card at the moment. The one in it is just a spare replacement for my main card which has gone to the manufacturer. I have been in touch with my computer manufacturer and they have had me testing things on my own but i still cant identify the problem. The latest test ive done is on my hard drive using testing software from the harddrive manufacturer. I ran all test available mutiple times and they all came back clean. I then used the testing software to earse the disk and boot sector which has wiped my event viewer information. After erasing the drive i tried to put in a clean install of my windows but i got a blue screen during the install. So as far as im concerned ive done multiple tests on my memory and hard drive so i would hope its enough to take them off the list and try something else. Im planning on phoning my computer manufacturer today to get more instructions but i dont mind testing things myself if i can find good trusworthy testing software. If you guys know anything that is able to test the cpu or mobo i would like to give it a try. Any other help or advice is welcome also. Thanks.
  5. For the past couple of weeks ive been getting a lot of blue screens. As always i checked the memory first. It has passed memtest 86 3 times and windows vista memory diagnostic has found no errors. Ive also tried using 1 stick at a time(i have 2 2gig sticks) and it hasnt helped the problem. Ive recently installed a new graphics card which was about 2-3 weeks before i started getting blue screens. The memory is also only about 4 weeks old. Ive tried a reformat which solved nothing and ive also flashed my bios following my motherboard manuals intructions which hasnt helped. Anyone who understands these errors and can find the problem would be a big help. Thanks in advance. Some of the errors that ive been getting at the blue screen are.. win32k.sys Page fault in nonpaged area memory management Bad Pool Caller Driver IRQL not less or equal Page fault in nonpaged area Bad Pool Header In windows ive been getting.. 6. After speaking to sapphire i figured out they have a VBIOS issue with some of their 4870's. The cards with the issue are the ones with P/N 188-01E85-001SA and SKU# 11133-00. Theres a VBIOS update on their webpage i have the option to try but after speaking to my computer manufacturer they recommended that i just replace the card with another 4870 from a different brand they are going to send me. Hopefully my problem will be fixed after this so i want to thank everyone who tried to help.
  7. While i was trying to find an answer i found this forum http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33933988 These guys are having the same problems as me. i checked my disks that came with my computer and figured out im also using a sapphire rad 4870 which doesnt seem to be a stable card. Im going to try find a fix for it through sapphires support. Ive sent a support ticket to sapphire through their homepage and im waiting for a reply. Ill try figure out the memtest thing later as i dont use burning software so ill need to create the disk on a friends computer. Ive been in touch with Sapphire and the techy thinks it may be a problem with the vbios. I need to find out my P/N and SKU before i can be sure though and i cant do that without breaking my warranty on my computer. The next step is to contact my computer manufacturer and speak to them about the problem then ill reply with more details.
  8. Having trouble with the memtest. I burned it to cd and set my cd player as my first boot device but when i reboot it doesnt boot up memtest. Instead it just boots into my OS. Can anyone describe how to create the disk so it boots properly and runs the test please.
  9. The computer is a month old so ill need to check my warranty to see if im allowed to open up the case. If the ati tool test and the memtest are clear then ill try sending the manufacturer an email and see what they have to say about it. The computer is supposed to be tested and have enough power and cooling but im guessing they winged it and didnt test it properly over a long period of time. Dont you think it could be memory leaks from the games? Warhammer and fallout 3 are both new and known to have memory leaks. The crysis demo is probably the most graphic intesive game on the market today and i can play for hours without any problems.
  10. Im running speedfan now and under the readings tab it says.. System 39C CPU 22C AUX 19C Core0 24 Core1 24 Core2 24 Core3 36 Heres the pcpitstop test http://www.pcpitstop.com/betapit/sec.asp?conid=21185062 I checked the errors but all they say is that the last shutdown was unexpected. Ive tried looking through them all i dont see anything that thats gives me enough information to help. Ill use memtest after ive finished the ati tool test in about an hour.
  11. Thanks for the replies. 1. Are you first removing the old drivers before installing the new ones ? I use the ati catalyst install manager in programs and features to uninstall the old drivers then i reboot and install the new ones. 2. Are you going back and making sure the drivers installed ? Device manager says the drivers are installed and working correcly 3. Do you have all the related Windows updates and the latest direct X My windows auto updates so im sure i do. 4. Are you getting the drivers from ATI or another source Im downloading them fromati drivers page. 5. Don't be offended but are you sure you are getting the correct drivers positive 6. Do you have the correct settings on the vid card set I dont mess around with my settings, everything is default. Ive taken the test but i dont see where is lets me save the results so i can post them. Ive downloaded the ati tool and done a 5 minute scan for artifacts and found none.
  12. My problem is when ive been trying to play games on my computer they sometimes freeze and force me to hard reboot my system. When it happens the graphics become distorted(the picture breaks up into lots of little squares) then usually the screen turns white or black and i cant do anything untill i hard reboot. Im positive its a problem with my graphics card(ati 4870) but am not sure if its software or hardware. Ive tried all the ati drivers from 8.7-8.10 But the problem still happens. Its a new computer i bought from a manufacturer and it only has 4 games on it. The computer is supposed to be tested to make sure the power supply can handle all the hardware and the cooling is supposed to be sufficient. The first game is warhammer online-The game runs perfectly untill the freeze happens. The second game is the crysis demo-This works perfect and ive never had any crashes or freezes. The third game is Ultima online with the razor assist program-Sometimes the screen flashes white and locks up the game. Sometimes it recovers and i can continue playing other times i need to restart the game. This game doesnt hang my system and im guessing its not the same problem im having with my other games. The fourth game is Fallout 3-This runs perfect untill the freeze happens. One time when warhammer froze instead of a white or black screen i noticed a BSOD but didnt get time to read it before my computer auto rebooted. One time after a reboot when windows booted up to the desktop i got a list of the times i had been forced to reboot that seemed like an event log. All the errors in it were ATI errors. There was about 14 which i think is the same amount of times ive been forced to reboot. What i really want is to know how to get this list to appear again. Im sure if i can get this list of logs to reappear i can use it to send data to ati and get my problem fixed. 13. The cable is fine. I tried resetting all the connections. There was no flashing lights on the network card. I checked all the settings and as far i could tell they were all fine. The computer was still under warranty so i got in touch with the tech support team and after running some tests they decided to come pick up the computer and repair it back in the shop. Im still waiting for the computer to be returned so i dont know what was wrong with it yet but im guessing its a hardware fault. Ill reply again when i get more details.
  14. Hi all this is my first time posting(first time ive needed help). My friend cant connect to his network after booting up his computer this morning. He says he hasnt changed anything or messed with his connections. Im using my computer to post this. His setup is like this.. Modem->wirless router(wired)->his pc(wired) ->second pc(wireless) His second pc using a wireless connection works fine but his main pc using and ethernet cable cant connect. When i diagnose the connection i always get this error message "A cable is not plugged into your network adapter "local area connection"" All the connections are fine and ive tried resetting them and rebooting but he still cant connect. Ive tried a system restore to fix it but it doesnt work. The network adapter is where i think the problem may be. It says it is working fine in device manager, but when i try to reinstall the drivers i get an "install failed, operation timed out" message. His NIC is onboard and im using the manufacturers disk for the drivers. Heres some details about the setup.. operating system-Vista home premium modem-Motorolla Surfboard SB5101e Router-sweex wireless broadband router NIC-onboard, NVIDIA GeForce 7050 / nForce 610i mobo This is what i got when i used ipconfig/all..
