  1. Strange short bursts of lag

If you can open 'Task Manager' and look at the process tab, you may be able to see what is using the most memory during the 3 seconds apart.
  2. It's extremely hard to know what's going on these days with "who bought who out" and "who added what adware/malware/tracking trojan program" to the product we used to TRUST!! What a sad situation we find ourselves in, just to be comfortable with our own computers, in our own homes. "TRUST" is not ever the word to use with the Internet

  8. Ransomware query...

Place your back ups to a removable hard drive! Don’t store your backups on an internal hard drive or network share you have write access to. The ransomware could encrypt the files on your connected backup drive or on your network share if you have full write access.

See if resetting Chrome browser to 'default' settings helps: http://www.howtogeek.com/171924/how-to-reset-your-web-browser-to-its-default-settings/ If not, you may have malware that Norton hasn't found or is affecting Norton. Ps .... 81 processes running is a bit much!! I have 49....
  10. I've been hit!

Just let me know how it runs today.
  11. I've been hit!

Let's flush the DNS cache first: Copy and paste these lines in Note pad. @Echo on pushd\windows\system32\drivers\etc attrib -h -s -r hosts echo 127.0.0.1 localhost>HOSTS attrib +r +h +s hosts popd ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew ipconfig /flushdns netsh winsock reset all netsh int ip reset all shutdown -r -t 1 del %0 Save as flush.bat to your desktop. Right click on the flush.bat file to run it as Administrator. Your computer will reboot. Reset IE to it's 'default' settings... Next, run TFC (I know you have it, but instructions follow) Download TFC by Old Timer http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/TFC-Temp-File-Cleaner-OldTimer-file187.htmland save it to your desktop. Save any unsaved work. TFC will close ALL open programs including your browser! This will also hide all desktop shortcuts, so just be aware! They will come back after rebooting. Windows 7 right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator. Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process and let it run uninterrupted to completion. Important! Manually reboot the machine to ensure a complete clean. Let me know if you're still in trouble!! If no trouble, reset your Homepage.
