  1. I got this in the mail yesterday so pretttyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What kind of setup are you guys running? Cpu? etc etc..
  2. Well, im looking to build a small form factor because its little, light, and WiFi built in on it, i can carry it right in the living room, hook it up hdmi and play on a 360 controller if i want to, or watch a movie. From what ive read the psu seems strong enough under load. with a 7850,or 7870 i wont draw anymore than 330watts i think. Ive got a big case already, thermal take armor. its a full tower, its just the front panel is missing. i don't know where to get a replacement for it. I guess i want something thats a little bigger than a video game console. But about 10-20 times more powerful, im planning to overclock about 4ghz to 4.2ghz on my i5 3570k. Just a little boost, nothing serious. Heat is a really big issue with these case. The airflow is ok inside the mini itx case. although i hear stock fans are really crappy. Replacing those can make a great deal better in cooling. Im using a p4 intel, so should be day and night.
  3. Yes, i was looking at that board. Although, it has no ability to overvolt or even under volt.
  4. Hey guys, long time no see! Its been a while. I must say, have not been here since 2009! wow lol, im married with 2 kids now. thats crazy.. anyways, i started checking out the pc market again. As im typing this on my Intel P4 2.93ghz with 1gb ram and a ide HD on integrated grapihics. its so fasttt!! wooh just got done beating crysis 2. lol joke! No ive been looking in the market alot now! Newegg mainly, looked all through amd and intel. I was a big AMD fan, and now it seems intel is doing so good with there cpu's. Anyways, after alot of reading and checking out the newer games. Thats it for me. Ive got to build a new system!! And after about 300 reviews, and 400 newegg shopping cart changes later - Obviously the only smart thing to do would be, get a Intel i5 3570K. So, i found one for $175 shipped new in the box! yess!!! Ok so, the CPU will be here tomorrow from ups. And, im ordering these friday! Im looking for this to be a HTPC, although, a fast one! im on a strict budget of these next few parts at $305 out the door. as, thats all thats in my paypal account lol. And i dont get paid until monday. No video card yet, one coming within the next week or so! And another gskill 8 gb stick to match the current one for dual channel support. I can only afford 8gb at the moment, but i want to have 16gigs soon. And do not want to be limited with 8gb dual channel because the motherboard only has 2 dimms. So thinking smart, and ahead of the curve. Im looking to really play games like crysis, BF3, COD, and Metro 2033. All of these games look really great. I want to max them all out of course with no hessitation. Im using a 1680/1050 monitor. Im guessing the 7950, or 7850, or 7870. Should have no issues with that. Not to up to date on the nvidia cards yet. Im looking to spend about $200-$250 on a video card, and it needs a HDMI output. Im going to use the HD4000 for now integrated on my i5 3570k So what do you guys think? 5. Hey guys, i have been though a mill getting GTA IV to work on my pc. first of all, make sure you have windows xp with sp3/ or windows vista with sp1. because it wont work withouth either of those. and the game is very difficult to run. mainly because when gta IV designed the game, they actually didnt do such a great job. but! you can make the game run alot better like what i did. also you need to download a cache booster. especially for people with only 2gb of memory like my self. but before i tweaked a little bit, it was crushing my gtx 260. and using all the memory! GTA IV PERFORMANCE TWEAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Theory: Now my theory was that, if you have a memory limit on, and you enter a resolution in the command line that is unable to be achieved with that memory limit, it will still put you in that resolution, but the quality scaling will not be implemented. Therefore no disappearing objects/textures, no long or noticeable pop-in's, and less/no lag. The trick is implementing the higher resolutions with you preferred graphic settings, by limiting your memory to just barely include the options you want, and then you force the resolution. Steps: 1. Get rid of -nomemrestrict or any current commandlines you have. Run the game and let it die. When you run the game, go to the graphic options, turn your resolution to 800x600 or 1024x768 or whatever you want the reflection maps/resolution based quality to be at, I did 800x600 mainly because it looks simular to the rest and will give you the most performance. Use the rest of your memory budget in draw distance.etc. 2. If you cannot acheive the graphical settings you want with your currently memory budget do this next step. If you can, then you can skip this step. make commandline.txt or append -availablevidmem (multiplier): This command works like this, say I have 256mb vram. -availablevidmem 2.0 would make it say I have 512mb vram, its a multiplier. So for getting our settings as we want it lets make a budget of 512mb vram, so -availablevidmem 2.0. Open GTAIV, set resolution in the ingame settings to 800x600, set rest of the options to whatever you want (be reasonable). Now continue to the next step. 3. Now you have your game set as you want it, but in a f-ugly resoltion, but we will fix that. Next step is to trick GTAIV, even people with 512mb graphic cards or even 1gb, this is even useful for them. One of my buddies with a 8800GTX loves this tweak because it allows him to get much higher frames with very little to no graphical loss. So now lets say all our desired settings ingame @ 800x600, use 650Mb. Ok. But say were now using a 1GB card so it says 650/1024Mb. This is a problem now because if we force -height 1080 -width 1920. We will end up with our ingame options changing to 1920x1080 giving us way more slowdowns because R* starts using that dam scaling reflection maps.etc with resolution. So what we need to do now is limit the memory GTAIV sees to exactly the amount to run our game in 800x600 (or whatever quality refection maps.etc you want) with our desired settings. So lets go back to our dilemma, we have a 1GB graphic card and the game only takes up 650mb with the settings we want in 800x600. We can figure this out by doing some simple math. 1GB Card (650mb desired settings): 650/1024 = 0.635 (its 0.634 but give a tiny bit extra, just like a couple megabytes). So you would use -availablevidmem 0.635 that would make the game detect you only have 650mb ram which barely fits the features you want in 800x600. So now once we have figured that out your commandline.txt or your shortcut appending should look like this (depending on what resolution you want/your vidmem.etc): -height 1080 -width 1920 -availablevidmem 0.65 and maybe you add stuff like (-framelimit, or -noblank or whatever). *BUT DO NOT USE ANY UN-RESTRICTION (this includes the nomemrestrict and norestrictions or anything like that)! 4. Now when we start up our game. We will be in our desired resolution, and when we look in the game options it will say 800x600, even though we are in a way higher resolution and all your settings will be how you want them and your memory budget will be exactly the right amount or similar like 650/650 or 742/746.etc Funny thing here you wont be able to go back cuz it will detect your memory budget is to low and the game is forcing a higher res, so you might not be able to leave the options screen now, so alt tab, and close the game. If all your settings looked right and it said 800x600 but was clearly in a higher res. Then you did everything right, if not, go retry. 5. Now restart the game and play. Yay, good fps, cheated GTAIV to not up the reflection quality with the resolution. Additional Speed: If you happen to be running Vista x86/x64 and you have a directx10 capable graphic card. Do what elecg2 figured out. I tried creating empty/easy HLSL shaders and putting them in GTAIV to get rid of shadows and stuff but that didn't work. However by doing what elecg2 tried, I got a huge performance increase, Go to GTAIV folder, go into common, then shaders. Backup everything in there <- !!! Then copy the contents of win32_30_atidx10, and paste them into win32_30_nv8. Or just rename the folders, whatever makes you happy. That gave me a significant performance boost and I have no graphical problems or abnormalities. Try it, if it causes you problems or decreased performance then just put it back to normal. With these steps you can get your game running beautifully in no time, or at least better than before. Enjoy.
  6. currently running the GTX 260 at 710mhz core/ 1404Mhz shaders, and 2400Mhz memory. i have looped 3dmark vantage at 1680/1050 4xaa 16xAF extreme settings. all is well, also games are running stable, as well ati tool artifact scanner runs all day as well. I have yet to push the core or memory or shaders to a overclock that shows artifacts. im still trying temps are 61c load 100% fan speed.
  7. I got the GTX 260 today, and the card was retail sealed in box! although, it was a factory overclocked as well! it was clocked at 647mhz core/1300mhz shaders 2200mhz memory! this is a great deal for 170$ fallout 3 is blazing fast! wow! i have not tested benchmarks yet, although i have not overclocked the card either. im curious to see how far it will go!!!! what u guys think for 170$? newegg is #1 By the way, the card just barely fit in my case. it had about 1mm of clearance. i thought i was going to have to cut my case up to make it fit. and for overclocking im sure the card is almost maxed out on the core for the voltage its getting. although, its funny. i was hoping to get the reference model to these clocks, and i already got these clocks. maybe 660 core ?
  8. ok i got my new PSU today, antec 1000 for 170$. sounds good! installed that. from the tracking info my video card posted in raliegh today! so i will have it tomorrow. cant wait to overclock!!!!! man im cpu limited come on tax refund time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. Hey guys good hearing from ya. Well its actually a long story. i found my self looking at video cards, and its not the new core 216. its just the original gtx 260. although! I found it OEM for 172$ on newegg. and i purchased it and payed for it, but turns out newegg was out of stock. so there sending me a retail one for 172$. i feel lucky! i purchased a new powersupply so i could power it as well. and yess very CPU limited i am. i will be upgrading that very shortly. i sold the hd4850 for nearly what i paid for the gtx 260. so i came out really well. and i have realized in some games where u modify the texture resolutions for example oblivion at 4096/4096 ground and wall textures, or Grid fixed at ultra high settings, will fold a 512mb video card in half. Anyways, my cpu upgrade will be coming soon. hopefully i can get the card up to like, 650/ 1400/ 2400
  10. Hey guys, anyways, im downloading :fallout3: and wanted to make sure i could run the game very well. i picked up a OEM GTX 260 at newegg for 172$ msi 896mb. hopefully they overclock a little better then the 4850's did. Does anyone have a GTX260? Do u have it overclocked? Anyways, i made the mistake to place the order saturday, so even though ive been charged nothing will be sent out till monday.
  11. I got it working with no router!! yes finally. I just went to dial up properties and enables networking internet sharing. and now its working great!! both computer OL wuth my 3G usb modem and laptop connected to desktop with ethernet.
  12. OK ive got Alltel wirless Wifi modem hooked USB in to my desktop, And im running my laptop to my desk top via ethernet. my desktops internet works fine and i can share files to both computers. but i cant get the internet to work with my laptop. Only my desktop has internet. I got it to work for 5 minutes, both having internet. And it stopped. Ive tryed everything i turned on file sharring with both computers, And got both private connections. and i tried public connections. How do i do this??? Thanks for the help
  13. I would plan for another HD4850 proubly 2 weeks after i got the new board and CPU running.
  14. well, There are going to be alot of games out there, And there are games out now, That i see FPS drops. And, crysis is hard to run to. Crossfire seems to double the performance. Other then the boards crossfire problem, Everything else on it is fine.
  15. Yes, The board Is nice. Although, When running crossfire It runs 1 video card at 16x and the other video card at 4x. Im not sure how much of a hit that is. but, from what im hearing that defeats the purpose of it even being crossfire capable.
