  1. Wow!! thanks for this huge list! I just installed Windows 8 Pro on my laptop, and one of my work laptops just to try it out. and so far Im not loving it too much.. so im thinking one of these links will make life with Windows 8 a bit more pleasant
  2. I just got rid of my crappy Samsung Galaxy S 4G (T-Mobile) in the summer, and now have an iPhone 4S 16GB, i have had about 7 different Android phones since 2009, and i have to say none compare to the iPhone in terms of ease of use, reliability, and user experience. I know everyone is different, but working in IT, i get to work on a lot of different phones, and i think i would never go back to android. here is a list of all the Android phones I have had. Original Motorola DROID HTC Droid Incredible (probably my Favorite Droid phone) Motorola i1 Nexus 1 HTC G2 Galaxy S 4G Samsung Vibrant Apple phones I have had iPhone 3GS 16GB iPhone 4S 16GB
  3. that is great!! ( I do love my iPhone.. but that is funny!)
  4. when you say that the downloads are being blocked.. what is blocking them? your anti virus software?(what kind are you using) how do you know they are being blocked? a pop-up message? can you post a screenshot of what you are seeing ? it might make this a bit more clear. also have you turned off the windows firewall, or other software firewall you may have installed.. also, have you tried disabling your antivirus software and then downloading the files?
  5. wow, 500.. do you have any errors in the even log? look in the application, and system logs.
  6. yeah, i use Cleanup on my 64bit win 7 enterprise with no issues, and have used it in vista as well. I also use it on server 2003, and server 2008.. pretty much works on everything.
  7. go here http://www.stevengould.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=15&Itemid=69 click on the download link, then click on the version 4.5.2 and download and run. this product, Windows Cleanup by Steve Gould is one of the best temp/junk file cleanup utilities i have ever seen. I use it on my personal pc's and side jobs, and also use it here at work on our servers. you wont be disappointed.
  8. besides my Dell laptop, I also have a Mac at my desk at work. its a Power Mac G5 dual CPU's Dual Processors, 2x 1.8GHz PowerPC G5 CPU's 4GB DDR PC3200 64MB GeForce FX5200 80GB HDD. 20" Apple Cinema display MAC OS X 10.5.8 its pretty fast, I love the silver G5 case. here is a pic of my desk, the G5 is on the left with the 1 Cinema display, my Dell laptop powers the Middle Cinema display, and the right side Dell monitor. and yes, I have Windows 7 wallpaper on my Mac. lol
  9. I love that site Bruce! I use it all the time for my own constant re formats, and for all of my side work. it works great and is a nice time saver.
  10. maybe i missed it, but did you try putting the original 40GB that came with the 4400 back in to see if it boots? I also have an old Dell , i just swapped out the power supply with a 480watt unit, it fit fine, just had to trim the back plate a bit so i could make it fit. btw dell was known for bad capacitors back then, they would leak all the time, i replaced hundreds of system boards in the Optiplex line (GX270's) under warranty.
  11. yup, thats the first thing i do on all my WIn7 builds!! i cant believe that its not on there by default.
  12. can you ping out to the internet? can you ping www.google.com? or some other sites? microsoft.com.... is her tcp/ip properties set to automatically asign ip and dns addresses?
  13. Thank you for this!! i love it! i use a windows 7 pc at work, running 32 bit on an amd64 X2 . im trying to learn all the ins and outs of 7, becaus we are starting to roll it out to the end users here. this folder will come in very handy!
  14. try an ipconfig /all if she is getting a 192.168.*.* address than she is connecting to the router and DHCP is working if she is getting a 169.254.*.* address then she is still connected to the router, but it is not passing DHCP to the laptop, and it will never hit the interwebs. i would in either case, do an ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew or you could right click that network conection and click on repair connection(it will renew automatically) you can also try power cycling the modem and router. you can try to reset internet explorer to its default settings also tools>internet options>advanced tab, then click restore internet explorer settings
  15. no, you will not have to buy another vista disk. but since it's an upgrade, you might have to re install XP first. (if it was me, i would re install XP, and not bother with Vista) but i don't know if you can get your money back for your vista disk. anyway, after xp is reinstalled, then do the vista upgrade. i think that's how the upgrade disk works..
  16. Congrats on your new card!! you know i've had alot of strange performance issues inVista, i tried an ati X1300Pro 256MB, and an nvidia 6200 256Mb (they suck for games, but i run dual 19" lcd's here at work) i would get constant blue screens and game lag with both cards. I fixed it by simply switching back to XP!! Lol I hate Vista for gaming, too much overhead! i had 2GB of ram, and also used a 2GB USB drive for vista's Ready Boost or whatever it's called. vista looks nice, but XP rocks for games. maybe you should do a clean install of Vista, or switch to XP
  17. Nice list Allen! good luck. i was just wondering about the video card. due to the $ vs. performance, would the 8800GTS, or for a bit more the GTX give you more bang for the buck than the ATI?? i've read so many articles of benchmark comparisons against the 2 cards, and the ATI pretty much looses most of the benches..although still a hella fast card!! I'm not putting your system down, believe me. I would love to have a 2900XT, or an 8800 over what i have anyday! I was just wondering if you just liked it better or something.
  18. damm, but since i have returned R6 Vegas, i can get away without it,,,but for how long i don't know.i do like the 7600 GT, would give some life to my aging AGP system
  19. hmmm, that might work for me. check your pms'
  20. Brandon, the 7600GT looks like a nice option, i used the pci-express version in a system i built for a customer, and i liked it. don't get me wrong, i love my 9800 pro!! i'm just mad that i finally found a fps game that it won't play..
  21. AMDX, yea, i thought there should be a way for the 9800 to play it, most games are backward compatible, and just use a different render path for older cards, but this game wouldn't even launch because of the SM3.0 error.. i can't believe there isn't a SM2.0 render path for the game..... ineedhelp, i'd send it to you, if i could upgrade my card to say a X1950 pro, or a 7900GS AGP
  22. I'm so aggrivated, i went to Micro Center yesterday and spent 40$ on Rainbow Six Vegas, the game i have been waiting for on PC since it came out. so i go home and try to install it, and it won't run... says my video card is not supported, because it doesn't support shader model 3. damm 9800 Pro! i guess i have gotten all the life out of it that i can. this is the first time that this has happened to me. it runs FEAR, STALKER, and prey fine, but i guess the life cycle is over. i don't have the $ to upgrade, so i had to return the game, and get some older games instead.
  23. uggg, an 8800Ultra, and quad core..and in9 32x.... i don't need to tell you how jealous i am.. Very Nice!!!!!!!
