  1. qqari I appreciate your comment! However,my feeling right now is to resign my membership as there are other forums where I can be of help. I spend a great deal of time on various forums, doing the best I can to help someone. If it is beyond my expertise, I don't get involved but rather will leave it for someone more qualified. I will however, read the answers posted and in some cases I learn a bit more myself. That is what it is all about. Learning a bit more each day and passing your knowledge on to others that may beifit from it. At least, that is the way I see it. So, having said that , I bid you adieu. forlornjohn
  2. Be very careful with this stuff......please Easy cleaner can do more damage to your stuff than you may know ... Its not that easy.... unles you know the inside & outside of the registry .. and how to deal with duplicate copies & such .. I lost all my sound .. and still don't have any to date, because of my carelessnes with the prog .. EasyCleaner It's a good program ... only ... for those who know how to use it Sorry I even mentioned it! Apparently it is going to keep going on and on. There are many program available that will damage your system besides Easy Cleaner as you all know. I use the program on a regular basis but that is the risk I take if I am careless. In future, I will refrain from making mention of programs that I have used that could help the posted problem, then maybe this topic will die a natural death, but I doubt it. forlornjohn
  3. The situation I was involved in with ZA was a bit strange as I never had it happen before. I had gone through the delete procedure and when I tried to access the internet, it was like my Home Page had been hijacked.Could 'nt get off this page from ZA which was quite lengthy and gave an explanation how to get internet access back. They were referring to ZA (Pro/Plus) which is not the one I had. I just had ZA (Freeware version). I downloaded another version (Free one) and I also received the instructions to delete you have to uncheck "Load ZA at start-up"+ reboot (Start/shut down/restart/OK) I don't know if the rest applies as they keep referring to ZA (Pro/Plus) & it gets involved. It involves internet logs folder & I don't want you to get imvolved in something that could damage your OS. I can only state that to the best of my knowledge,if you are going to uninstall, you have to uncheck "Load ZA at start-up". Before I downloaded again, I was left with two files in windows/system32 called VSDATA95 and VSDATANT and instructed by ZA to delete them. VSDATA95 deleted but could not delete VSDATANT (Access denied).Don't know if this will help or not. Be very careful what you do with ZA as I would not want you end up in the same predicament as I did. Sounds right on the right click but I would uncheck before shutting down. forlornjohn

  5. I also have a free version of ZA but it is v4.5.538.0Don't know why the difference. Had a bit of a problem recently with ZA. Tried to delete it & lost access to the net. Kept getting a page from ZA informing me that I was being restricted from internet access because ZA had detected a problem with my installation. The page was "Notice from Zone Labs Internet Security". This is from a program I thought I had deleted. I was able to get around in by downloading ZA again. Apparently if you check the options box "Load at startup" it will not delete properly. Decided to keep program for now anyway. Don't know if any of this helps but thought I would pass it along anyway. Good luck! forlornjohn
  6. Drovers Dog Thank you for your .02 cents worth. It is noted ! As I already mentioned, I should have been more explicit about using the program in question and the potential problems involved with dealing with these files. I still maintain that it is a good program (IF YOU KNOW HOW TO USE IT) and I use it quite frequently. I do not know if you have the program or not but if you don't, why not have a look at it and see for yourself what it can do and look at the WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS to be taken. I would never suggest that someone should do something to their OS if I thought it would harm it. I trust this puts the matter to rest. forlornjohn My intention, was, and never will be to hurt anyone, only always to be fair to all, I have worked on so many Machines, that their (friends) have told them to delete this and that!! Most of the time, it has entailed a complete reformat, and Install, just because a few stupid files went (Aussie) Walkabout!!! (means, Gone, no more!!!) Hope you are not offended???? No offense taken. Like you, I have had to do a complete wipe and reinstall on friends' computers because of advice given by someone who didn't have any idea what they were advising and the harm it could do. As I admitted, I didn't explain fully enough, the dangers involved in dealing with these files. I can assure you that in the future, if I feel the person who posted the request for help is not qualified to carry out my suggestion or if it could damage their OS, I will not post. I hope this will put you mind at ease and trust this satisfies all. forlornjohn

  8. I know. I wasn't trying to hijack your post or detract from it. I just wanted to make sure Mr Elusive and anybody else who happened to read this thread understood the dangers involved with deleting duplicate files. Sorry , -kd5- No problem kd5 ...you did the correct thing. I should have gone into a bit more detail about the dangers involved with dealing with these files. No apology necessary, but thanks anyway. Best regards, forlornjohn
  9. Hi kd5, As you may have noticed when I mentioned Easy Cleaner, I made the point of stating that one should be careful when dealing with duplicte files. If you have a copy of Easy Cleaner, have a look at the duplicate files section where it also makes mention of being very careful when dealing with these files and it also states "For advanced users". I would like to thank you for pointing out the danger of working with these files a bit more emphatically than I did. Regards, forlornjohn "Supporter of the Freeware Revolution"
  10. There is a program called Easy Clean by ToniArts (Freeware) that will list duplicte files. You could try a search for it or try http://www.webattack.com/freewareWhen it lists duplicate files, you can set the option to check or highlight the newest/oldest. It should show any old files left over. You will have to be sure of the files you delete so be careful. Regards, forlornjohn "Supporter of the Freeware Revolution"
  11. Looks cool all4sma! forlornjohn "Supporter of the Freeware Revolution"
  12. It sometimes takes a bit of time to examine your computer. It may appear that nothing is happening, then you should get a banner saying 33% complete and after that, one saying 66% complete, then on the left side of the window, it should show number of patches & number of updates. Hope this helps. forlornjohn Supporter of the Freeware Revolution
