Hello fellow users. I have an HP Pavillion with windows 10. last night my pc was running fine and this morning when I turned it on my screen was black and "disk read error, press ctl/alt/delete to restart" was written on the screen.  When I do that it continues to return to that page, I am unable to access anything because my mouse is in my keypad and basically it is frozen in that mode.

 

I am thinking maybe the safe mode but how in the heck do I find that in this mode. Also, the Windows icon plus "R" does not bring up the search box or allow me to do anything.

 

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!!

Pull the CMOS battery and leave it out for a minute to reset BIOS.

 

See if that fixes it.

There are other things to try but you'll need access to the recovery console and recovery media.
