Hi, first of, it can make a difference in how you launch CMD in start.. when you type cmd in the start , you will see that an icon appears at top of start menu. you can make it start as admin, or as current user. you can all too easily make the execute window "search" in the start button dissappear when for instance, you decide to "uninstall" the indexing and search service, in win7 32bit. Once in CMD console, there is something in "attrib" type attrib /? end hit enter. one of the options, is to act on folders as well (to do what the GUI file explorer won't properly do.. to wit, set folders. even when it says it will) There is a danger in there. recycle.bin can be made non system, non hidden. There is an even greater danger in the attrib console. Attrib can seriously mess with indexable file/folder options. A GUI attrib tool I used (attrib changer) was unbearably slow and non-intuitive, so I wrote some attrib commands for batch processing. attrib /? shows you /d and -i as options Well, after -i (and even after +i to try correct issue) to the data partition, search was bulloxed. Re-indexing does not work, indexing stays at zero files done when finished, and that is after I safe-mode deleted the search indices stores (MS support groups do not say one has to do this in SAFE mode, but booted into admin user account, I cannot delete the files and folders they say to delete.. even after stopping indexing and search service in service management console.) search is a fickle beast, and I need it. (tons of data in properties of files) So, beware of -i and /d Kind regards, Jaak ex MsMVP, 06/07/08 (Flemisness is an excuse to hopscotch thinking?)
