At startup I am getting "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down" The heading says: Explorer If left alone it simply sucks up screen and is a pain in the eye, but if I close it I don't have the convinience of my computer AT ALL! I have re-installed my OS (win 98) to no avail. The "details" read as follows:EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in module DPNDI.DLL at 0167:10017d00. Registers: EAX=01427c44 CS=0167 EIP=10017d00 EFLGS=00010246 EBX=00000000 SS=016f ESP=0141f82c EBP=01427c78 ECX=01427c44 DS=016f ESI=00000003 FS=2fff EDX=00000000 ES=016f EDI=00000000 GS=0000 Bytes at CS:EIP: 8b 02 3a 01 75 2e 0a c0 74 26 3a 61 01 75 25 0a Stack dump: 1000a7ae 00000000 01427c44 bff92d08 00000090 00000000 0000000c 00000008 00000003 00000000 d82be2b0 11d05764 c0006ea9 a205d74f 001c0022 0000010a Any chance of getting rid of this annoyance? :help:

If your a person who doesn't have much resources or have lots but used them all up. I would head over to http://www.mozilla.org and get mozilla as your new free internet browser because it doesn't use explorer, which means less of a chance for it to mess up if it doesn't get used. That was my work around when I had 98, but i've moved on to XP and i don't expierence those problems anymore. (contrary to what people say,XP manages my system resources better than 98 did)

Would that be my only option? I was more interested in rectifying the 'illegal operation' window problem. To be precise, what would be required in order to simply get rid of the window without changing browser? I don't believe its IE I think its the win Explorer ??? But then I thought gator-ade was assistance for crocdilian hurricane victims too...

well lowtechonpc . the thing is if im correct explorer and IE are basically the same except when you go to the internet it switches from just INTERNET explorer to WINDOWS explorer. So if one crashes they both crash. No thats not your only option but axually when you change browers you will expiernce less crashes because it won't be useing EXPLORER so much. as for ILLEGAL OPERATION thats simply telling you about a memory problem and is simply nothing to do with illegal stuff. Sorta like you can't divide by 0. that type of illegal operation

But if you must try posting a test if all possible.

i just re-read the whole thread... um if its okay with you and you don't have any valuable stuff on your PC i would follow through with a whole reformat and instal. it will be clean and you probably won't have crashes taht much.

O.k. Well maybee I should take the thing into my garage and make it a hyper-threading gaming only PC... HmMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmm
